FENTON, Mo. (KMOV.com) - A bicyclist died after a tractor-trailer struck him while he was riding on Interstate 44 in St. Louis County early Tuesday morning.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol identified the victim as Kevin J. Purcell, 19, of Imperial. He was hit around 12:40 a.m. in the Fenton area and rushed to a St. Louis hospital, where he died Wednesday.

Crash reports stated a 51-year-old Boliver man was driving the rig eastbound on Interstate 44, west of Bowles Avenue. He told authorities he could not see Purcell due to poor lighting.

Purcell's family created a fundraising page to help offset funeral and medical expenses.
