ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – Gail Nasgovitz got involved in Pedal the Cause after a trip to the doctor changed her life.

Nasgovitz has always been active, but in February of 2014, while she was training for a half marathon, she noticed her heart was pounding and she was having trouble breathing. She immediately went to the doctor where she was diagnosed with Leukemia.

“He told me I needed to get to the emergency room,” Nasgovitz said.

After fighting for her life, she received news that the disease was in remission.

“I’m a survivor,” said Nasgovitz.

The Leukemia survivor had another life changing moment when she took her daughter to a Hard Rock Café in Memphis and saw a 3-year-old girl who had cancer.

“I noticed this little girl with a bald head,” Nasgovitz said. “After that I knew we had to do something.”

Nasgovitz was inspired to help find a cure for the disease, which is why she became involved with Pedal the Cause.

Pedal the Cause will take place September 26 and 27 in St. Louis. All donations go to Siteman Cancer Center and St. Louis Children’s Hospital to advance lifesaving cancer research.
