JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

More mosquitoes in Jefferson County have tested positive for the West Nile virus in 2015 than any previous year, according to health officials.

"This year is actually the worst year we had since we started doing surveillance of mosquitoes for West Nile Virus," said Steve Crawford with the Jefferson County Health Department.

So far no humans have tested positive for the virus in Jefferson County, but health officials said they are still taking precautionary measures.

The county's health department purchased new equipment to spray for mosquitoes in the area, after one of their fogging machines broke.

Crawford said money from emergency revenue will help pay for the new machine.

"And we hope to have that sprayer up and running by next week," said Crawford.
