ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – The latest report from the Identity Theft Resource Center shows that there have been more than 500 data breaches reported so far in 2015.

The breaches, which have exposed more than 140 million records, have affected businesses, schools and the government.

The report, which looks at records from January to September, concluded that businesses had the most breaches, with the health sector coming in second.

The most recent health sector breach impacted users of Anthem, the second largest health insurer in the United States. During the breach, more than 70 million customer records were exposed.

In June, 21.5 million records were exposed when hackers targeted the U.S. Office of Personnel Management.

Experts say the best way to protect personal information is to be extra careful online. They also suggest monitoring credit scores.
