ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) – The homicide total for St. Louis County so far in 2015 has matched the number of murders in all of 2014.

Kevin McCombs, 29, was shot and killed during a drive-by double shooting on Wheaton near Vinita Park Tuesday night. McCombs murder was the 23rd homicide in St. Louis County in 2015, but that stat does not include areas patrolled within St. Louis County by other police departments, meaning the number is much higher. In 2014, there were only 15 homicides.

“What is really going on? It’s a lot of violence, we are in a time where people really need to pray,” said North County resident Violet Taylor.

St. Louis County Police believe almost all of the homicides are gang or drug related.

“I’d like to see city leaders come out, be more visible, you see them on the news but you don’t actually see them in your neighborhood until something bad happens,” said Taylor.

St. Louis County Councilwoman Hazel Erby, whose district has seen a large number of the killings, said more programs need to be put in place to help youth.
