ST. LOUIS (AP) - A state appeals court has upheld a $20.5 million judgment for a man who was beaten during a brawl at a St. Louis fast food restaurant.

The appeals court on Tuesday upheld a St. Louis jury's verdict that employees at the Jack in the Box had a duty to break up the 2010 fight. The brawl left Ali Aziz, now 37, severely brain damaged.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/1fUQp9x ) Aziz claimed in a lawsuit that the restaurant's management didn't prevent the fight or train employees to deal with unruly customers. The original jury verdict found Aziz partially to blame for being involved in the brawl.

Four people pleaded guilty to assault charges related to the fight and were sent to prison. A fifth person was acquitted.
