Family optimistic about girl's recovery after school bus accident in Cedar Hill

Posted: Updated:

( - Two months after being hit by a school bus and sustaining critical injuries, a 7-year-old girl continues to make strides down a long road to recovery.

On June 25, Paige Breckle was hit by a school bus in front of her Cedar Hill home. She was then airlifted to Children's Hospital in St. Louis, where she underwent a nine hour life saving surgery.

When News 4 spoke with the Breckle family in July, Paige was bedridden . Now the 7-year-old is learning how to walk again, and doctors said she is getting stronger each day.

"It's universal that a child wants to get better regardless of the obstacles, and the obstacles that children overcome are truly incredible," said Dr. Mark Miller, an orthopedic surgeon.

Although Paige's journey has been grueling at times, her family said they are hopeful she will make a full recovery in upcoming months.

"She kept asking doctors when she could get on the monkey bars and go play, so that's our goal," said Bobby Breckle, the 7-year-old's father. "Hopefully by spring time she's up and running."

Paige’s extended family has set up a GoFundMe page to help with medical expenses. You can find it here.
