ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) - The Center for Social Empowerment and Justice gave teddy bears to classmates of Jamyla Bolden and the entire student body of Koch Elementary Monday morning.

"The teddy bear is a universal symbol of caring and comfort," said Pastor F. Willis Johnson of the Center for Social Justice and Empowerment. "The bears from Build-A-Bear Workshop and books from the American Federation of Teachers is in response to the trauma experienced by these students to losing their peer Jamyla. It's a way for them to know they are supported, cared for and never alone."

Jamyla Bolden was killed Aug. 18 while doing homework on her mother's bed when shots were fired into a bedroom window from outside. Her mother was wounded at the same time from the shots. De'Eris Brown has been apprehended as a suspect and charged with murder.
