Suspects in custody after allegedly attempting to run over Lincoln County officer

LINCOLN COUNTY, MO (KMOV.com) – Police in Lincoln County responded to Cuivre River State Park early Thursday morning in reference to suspicious activity along the 300 block of Cheatham Road.

After the deputy arrived he noticed a Chevrolet pickup truck parked next to a gray van.

According to police, the officer turned on his emergency lights and exited his vehicle. He then approached the truck and the suspect, 39-year-old, Christopher Wright, of Foley, attempted to speed-off and run over the deputy.

The deputy then caught up with Wright along Highway KK near Old Highway 61 after observing his truck driving without its lights on. Wright continued to evade the officer until jumping from his vehicle and landing on his face and chest.

The truck continued down Highway KK unmanned.

The deputy pursued the suspect on foot when Wright suddenly collide with his own rolling vehicle. Wright was commanded to stay down.

Wright was tasered after charging at the officer.

A .22 long rifle Wright had told investigators he threw out the passenger side window was recovered in a ditch along Old Alexandria Road near Highway KK.

At the time of the arrest 11 grams of methamphetamine, two-baggies of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia were found in Wright’s pants pockets. Police believe he was attempting to sell the drugs recovered.

Police arrested the second suspect, Paul Hoevelman of Foley, the next day.

Wright has been charged with felony Assault in the First Degree on a Law Enforcement Officer and Resisting Arrest. Additional drug charges are pending.

Bond was set at $250,000, cash only.
