SWANSEA, Il. (KMOV.com) - A Belleville man was charged with a burglary warrant Thursday.
A news release said James T. Papproth, 27, was charged by St. Clair County State's Attorney Brendan Kelly's office with a two county felony burglary warrant.
Swansea police have handled a series of burglaries to storage units at both a Storage Inn and Storage Plus in Swansea over the last month. Throughout the investigation, Belleville, Columbia and other cities were also victims of storage unit burglaries. The suspect cut the locks with bolt cutters, inspected the opened lockers and then placed their own lock on the locker as if he owned it. The suspect would then return the next day to steal the lockers' contents.
Swansea Detective Dan Lipe responded to an address in Columbia with a Columbia detective in order to find a suspect vehicle seen in surveillance video. At that address, Papproth was identified as a suspect and brought to the police station for an interview. It was later discovered that Papproth committed another burglary the same morning he was brought in to the station.
Judge Baricevic signed the warrant Thursday and issued a $75,000 bond. Papproth is currently detained in the St. Clair County jail.
This case is still under investigation. Other police departments are following up on additional charges.
