DES PERES, Mo. (KMOV.com) - Des Peres police are warning residents of a car repair scam that cost one woman around $7,000 in damages.

Police said two men, claiming to work for a car dealership, approached a woman at a strip mall on Manchester Road and offered to repair the dent in her Lexus SUV for $350 dollars.

The woman reportedly accepted the deal, but found her vehicle in worse condition after the men worked on it.

"It appeared that the only thing that had been done was the vehicle was spray painted," said Lt. Dale Fiala with the Des Peres Police Department.

Lt. Fiala said the men asked for more money to make additional repairs, but the woman declined and called police.

The assessed damage on her vehicle after the faulty repair job now totals more than $7,200, according to authorities.

Bill Goehl owns Dent Nation on Manchester Road. He said a reputable company would never solicit business in a random parking lot and advises residents to take a damaged car to an actual facility for repairs.

Police have identified one suspect in this case, but no arrests have been made.
