ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) - Washington University is taking a different approach to gun violence. 

An exhibition called "Guns in the Hands of Artists" invited artists to use dis-commissioned gun parts as raw materials for their work.

"I'm hoping that the viewers of this exhibition will take away will be stimulated by these artworks, to think about the issue of guns and gun violence from a new and different perspective," said artist and gallery owner Johnathan Ferrara.

The exhibition opens September 16 at Washington University's Des Lee Gallery downtown.
