ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOV.com) – A St. Louis County councilwoman said she is devastated by the amount the violence in her community following the death of a 21-month-old boy.

Although police said they believe the toddler shot himself with a gun, Councilwoman Hazel Erby said the recent incident still hits home, as residents continue to cope with last week's homicide of a 9-year-old girl.

Erby said lawmakers, citizens, and city leaders need to do more to stop the violence.

“I think we need to make sure we have meaningful programs in place and again I can't stress enough, how we have to address the problems in education,” Erby said.

The councilwoman said she and other officials are currently working to come up with solutions to help fix the issues impacting the St. Louis area.
