(KMOV.com) - An Illinois man is accused of manipulating hundreds of businesses throughout  the St. Louis area in a bogus advertising scheme.

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) issued a warning, urging entrepreneurs to use extreme caution when doing business with Charles McMillen.

Earlier this month, officials at a restaurant chain in the Metro East said McMillen billed the business $799 for an ad that was never published.

McMillen reportedly cut off all communication with the company after an employee accused him of fraud.

In September 2007, McMillen pleaded guilty to theft by deception in connection with a similar advertising scheme in Grafton, Illinois, according to court records in Jersey County.
