ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- Striping work caused major traffic delays in the westbound lanes of Interstate 64 Monday morning.

Crews blocked off three lanes of the interstate around Third Street to conduct the work before the morning rush hour. IDOT gave no advanced warning that the work was coming, calling such an omission an "oversight."

During the lane closures, crews with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) were completing striping work that had begun on Saturday but had to be postponed due to the weekend rain.

IDOT officials said they expect the work to be completed before the afternoon rush hour.
