‘Lock it for Love’ aims to prevent gun violence

Posted: Updated:

(KMOV.com) -- A local women’s group is hoping to prevent gun violence and improve safety by giving away gun locks.

Lock it for Love is a community outreach program that provides free gun locks and gun safety information. The group, Women’s Voices Raised for Social Justice, brought their message to Higher Heights Church in south St. Louis and say gun locks are essential to prevent gun accidents involving children.

“Gun locks also are a deterrent to people stealing guns. If someone comes into a home and there is a gun with a lock on it, they are less likely to steal it,” said President of Women’s Voices Raise for Social Justice Lise Bernstein.

Studies show only 39 percent of parents with a gun in their home keep it locked, unloaded, and separate from ammunition.
