Jamyla Bolden’s mother recounts the night her daughter died

Posted: Updated:

(KMOV.com) – The mother of 9-year-old Jamyla Bolden recounted the night her daughter died in their home while she was working on homework.

“My son ducked down. He was behind the bed. That’s when I felt the blood on my legs,” Kendric Henderson said. “I didn’t feel the pain at first, but then I looked down and realized I was shot.”

She says she then yelled for someone to call 911 because she was shot, turned to Jamyla, but Jamyla wasn’t moving.

“At that point, I noticed Jamyla wasn’t saying anything. Usually when we hear the gunshots, she’s the first one who yells ‘Mom, they're shooting!’” Henderson said. “I went to check on her and as I looked over, she was laying on her stomach. She wasn’t moving.”

Henderson flipped her daughter over, but Jamyla was unconscious. That’s when she started shouting “Myla! Myla” over and over again.

"At quiet times, I can still hear the gunshots. I can still remember going to turn her over and her not moving," she said. "That's the main thing I remember: her not moving."

Right now, a $6,000 reward is being offered for any information that leads to an arrest in Jamyla’s death. Police initially offered a $5,000 reward, but the Fraternal Order of Police have offered an additional $1,000.

"With the way murder investigations go in St. Louis, to say I have faith is probably a lie," Henderson said as she fought back tears. "This is something we may never know why. My daughter is gone for no reason."
