UNIVERSITY CITY, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Authorities are investigating after shots were fired near Hanley and Trenton in University City Friday evening.

The shooting occurred around 6:00 p.m. Bullets riddled a minivan and evidence markers were spread across the street near a basketball hoop.

When police arrived at the scene, two gunshot victims were found. The 28-year-old driver of the minivan was found injured in the driver's seat. The passenger was found on a nearby porch with injuries. Both are in critical, but stable condition.

“All I know is the shots were coming down here, right in this area. It’s very weird, you don’t have much crime right here,” said resident Lily Moore.

Investigators say the incident happened over a drug transaction between the victims and known acquaintances which escalated into a robbery. A large amount of money was found at the scene.

Residents say they saw three black males with T-shirts fleeing the area right after the shots were fired. A white Nissan Altima was seen driving eastbound on Trenton, and a black Cadillac was seen traveling westbound on Trenton.

The investigation is ongoing.
