FERGUSON, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Police said they have several tips and leads in the murder of 9-year-old Jamyla Bolden, but are not providing many details on the investigation.

Anger and sadness was evident in the voice of Ferguson Police Sgt Dominca Fuller as she updated the public on the status of the investigation into Bolden’s murder Thursday. Bolden was shot as she was lying in bed doing her homework; her mother was injured. Fuller was one of the first officers to respond.

“You have a 9-year-old child sitting in her house on her mother’s bed doing homework and a bullet strikes her, our concern is to get this person off the street,” Fuller said.

Police have elected to release very little information about the investigation, but said public safety is not at risk.

Fuller told News 4 investigators have been focusing on the Bolden family. Authorities are not saying if the Bolden home was targeted or if the shooting was random. Officers are canvassing the neighborhood for information.

“An innocent child was taken from us, not just from her mother but from all of us in the community. She was loved by the kids at her school and kids she played with in the neighborhood,” said Fuller.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Crimestoppers.
