FESTUS, MO (KMOV.com) – A Festus mother has been charged with three felonies in connection with the death of her 19-month-old daughter Layla Fast.

According to police, 21-year-old Taylor Fast was originally charged with first-degree endangering the welfare of a child in regards to her 3-year-old son.

When authorities arrived in April at an apartment in the 200 block of Timberwyck, Fast reportedly told police her daughter was bitten by a spider and was unconscious.

When officers saw the little girl, they immediately contacted the Joachim Plattin Ambulance District. Fast’s daughter, Layla, died after being taken to the hospital for severe head trauma.

Authorities said the child had severe injuries to her face and neck. The girl also had bruising over most of her body.

Fast is now charged with abuse or neglect of a child resulting in death, a Class A felony and second-degree murder, a Class A felony.

The investigation into Layla Fast’s death is ongoing.
