Recent cases involving armed teens raises concern

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Criminal cases involving armed teenagers have become more prevalent in recent months, according to St. Louis officials.

Last week on August 11, police said 17-year-old Lorenzo Waller allegedly carjacked and assaulted a woman with a gun in Edwardsville.

St. Louis Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce said similar incidents throughout the city have raised concern among law enforcement officers.

"Police encounter these individuals on the street, and social media is just awash with images of young people in St. Louis carrying guns," said Joyce.

Finding a solution may pose a challenge, but Joyce said it will take more than policing efforts. The circuit attorney explained parents must also inform their children about the possible consequences associated with gun violence.

"They could change their whole life in an instant, because of a decision they made while carrying a gun," said Joyce.
