FRANKLIN COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A Hollister, Missouri man had to be tased after he began kicking a Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputy who was attempting to arrest him, according to authorities.

Nathan Mitchell, 32, is charged with domestic assault after witnesses stated they saw him holding his girlfriend’s head under water during an argument while they were floating down the Meramec River Friday evening. The witnesses told police they saw Mitchell push the victim’s head down several times.

Others in the area noticed the alleged abuse and pulled the woman away from Mitchell. They then began to assault the suspect, according to authorities.

Mitchell was later located inside a motel room with injuries to his eye and face from the altercation. When deputies attempted to take him into custody for domestic assault, the suspect became combative and kicked one of the deputies, at which time he was tased, authorities said.

Mitchell was taken to the Franklin County Jail where he was charged with domestic assault. He is currently being held on a $75,000 cash-only bond.
