ST. LOUIS, Mo. ( -

The mother of the woman who was killed in front of her 5-year-old son in a drive-by shooting is pleading for the violence to stop.

Whitney Brown, 24, and Devon Fletcher, 28, were killed in a drive-by shooting near the intersection of Mimika and Shulte early Thursday morning. Erica Jones, Brown’s mother, said she is not sure what she is going to tell her grandson, who witnessed the shooting.

“My grandson was in the backseat, the bullet went through nearby. It was a blessing that he didn’t get hit. He’s five, what am I supposed to tell him now?” Jones asked. “They didn’t deserve that. No mother should have to suffer that, no mother at all, especially when someone sees something."

Jones is desperately trying to grasp a world without her daughter, a world where retaliatory shootings are becoming the norm. Often, unintended victims like Brown are caught in the crossfire.

“You don’t come back and cut down somebody’s life. That’s somebody’s life, that’s somebody’s child, that’s somebody’s daughter, sister, aunt, uncle. You cut down somebody’s life over nothing, over an argument,” Jones said.

Jones is urging anyone with information to come forward.

“I want that person to know that if you know, I don’t care about no code on no street. I don’t care about none of that, my grandson could have been killed too,” she added.

Jones told News 4 her grandson will forever be emotionally scarred.

“He said, 'Mommy was shot and she went to sleep Nana and she didn’t wake up,” Jones said. “I have to explain to her 5-year-old son why his mother is not coming back,'"

Police do not have a description of the gunman, but said that person was driving a white pick-up truck.
