FERGUSON, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A drone was spotted flying over demonstrators and police during protests in Ferguson Monday night.

The man responsible for flying the remote controlled drone contacted News 4 to clear up speculation that police were operating the device.

Calvin Clines said he flew the drone over a portion of West Florissant Ave out of pure curiosity and to post aerial views of the protests to social media.

When Clines asked officers whether flying the drone would break any laws, he said police were unsure.

"[The officer] said as long as I stayed in the 400 feet of FAA rules, I should be okay," said Clines.

The St. Louis County Police Department confirmed they do not own or use drones.
