ST. LOUIS, MO (KMOV.com) – St. Louis Police arrested 57 protesters outside the Federal Building in downtown St. Louis Monday afternoon.

Police say the protesters were apprehended for obstructing the normal use of the entrances to the Thomas Eagleton Federal Courthouse.

A barricade was placed at the top step of the building. According to police, many of the protesters ignored the barricade and were arrested for it. Known Ferguson activists Cornell West was also arrested, as well as many members of the clergy.

This is not West's first time being arrested. He was arrested last year by the Ferguson Police Department following the protests of Michael Brown's death.

In a press release, United States Attorney Richard Callahan estimated the total number of protesters ranged anywhere from 100-200 people.

The protest was characterized as peaceful and nonviolent otherwise.
