SOUTH ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -

Residents of the Princeton Heights neighborhood said they are alarmed after a 60-year-old man was held at gunpoint in the basement of an apartment building.

According to police, the victim was robbed at gunpoint in the basement of an apartment building near the intersection of Holly Hills and Gravois. Statistics show crime is up in the neighborhood compared with 2014, but the increase has been in non-violent crime.

Burglaries are up by 75 percent and car thefts have risen 137 percent.

“I’ve had my car windows broken out a couple of times, kids stealing change out of the ashtrays, that sort of thing,” said neighborhood resident Bob Buckner. “That (the armed robbery) is unusual around here.”

Ward 13 Alderwoman Beth Murphy said she also alarmed by the robbery, and supports adding more police.

Authorities are still searching for the suspect.
