(KMOV.com) -- New York Jets' defensive lineman and St. Louis native Sheldon Richardson, plans to plead not guilty to charges brought against him following a high-speed chase on July 14, his attorney said.

Richardson is scheduled to appear in court on August 10. The former Mizzou standout is charged with resisting arrest and multiple traffic violations in O'Fallon, Missouri.

Police said he sped through stop lights at 143 mph, before officers attempted to conduct a routine traffic stop. A brief chase ensued. Then Richardson pulled into a home's driveway, where authorities issued him a court summons.

Three passengers, including a 12-year-old boy, were also inside the car during the incident, according to a police report.

Officers said the vehicle smelled of marijuana and a loaded handgun was also found inside the car.

Prior to the July 14 incident, Richardson was subjected to a four games suspension by the NFL for drug use.
