Missouri sales tax holiday begins Friday

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Missouri is offering a back-to-school sales tax break in participating cities starting Friday, August 7.

The three-day sales tax holiday will run through Sunday, August 9 in cities such as Richmond Heights and Chesterfield.

Shoppers in Chesterfield will not have to pay any portion of the sales tax on qualified merchandise.

Maggie Crane, the director of communication for the City of St. Louis, said St. Louis will also be participating in the tax break.

“Meaning you kind of get a two-for-one special,” Crane said. “So you not only get the tax break for the state taxes but also for the city taxes. So it’s about a little bit more than 8 percent.”

The tax exempt items include clothing less than $100, school supplies less than $50 per purchase and personal computers less than $3,500.
