Two big local ballot measures fail to pass Tuesday

Posted: Updated:

(KMOV.com) - Voters refused to pass two hotly debated tax increase propositions Tuesday's ballot.

The City of St. Louis proposed a $180 million bond issue which would have, in part, pay to replace fire trucks and equipment that are as much as 25 years old. A majority of voters supported the measure, but it required a 2/3 majority to pass.

In St. Charles County, voters rejected Francis Howell School District's Prop Y. The school board will meet on Thursday to make a plan for cuts.

The district’s superintendent told News 4 that if the bond did not pass, the district may resort to cutting back on sports and classes could meet only four days a week.
