ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO -

The St. Louis County NAACP hosted a commemoration event at St. Louis Community College Florissant-Valley to mark the one year since the death of Michael Brown Jr. in Ferguson.

At the Ferguson First Friday Brunch, event organizers said city leaders and law enforcement discussed progress made in the community since last August.

"As we look at ways to provide direction for the region and ensure a legacy of hope and promise, we found the future rests in our most valuable asset, our children," said  Esther Haywood, president of the St. Louis County NAACP.

Among those in attendance were Michael Brown Sr, St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar, and Ferguson Mayor James Knowles.
