CAHOKIA, Ill. (KMOV.com) – Charges have been filed against a 38-year-old woman accused of trying to steal a corporate jet from St. Louis Downtown Airport Wednesday morning.

Naima Wartts allegedly got past a security guard at the airport after 4 a.m., parked her car on the tarmac and got into the cockpit of a 20-seat Bombardier Global 5000 jet while carrying her luggage, according to Sauget Police Chief Patrick Delaney.

The plane, which was being renovated, was disabled and Wartts was unable to start the jet, authorities said. Airport security called for help after spotting the suspect on security cameras.

Wartts allegedly surrendered to police and was described as polite and cooperative by authorities. No motive or explanation for the suspect’s alleged actions has been released.

Wartts is charged with burglary, a Class 2 felony, for knowingly entering the plane with the intent to take it, according to court documents. Her bail was set at $25,000.

Chief Delaney said the airport's security is typically very good and is unsure of how the woman got onto the tarmac.

The investigation is ongoing.
