ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – St. Louis Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce took to Facebook after a ‘known gang member’ was sentenced to six years in prison for a range of crimes.

In her Facebook post, Joyce stated Damond Jackson stole a car and parked it in his high school’s principal’s parking spot. She also said Jackson brought a gun on another the grounds of another school.

“When confronted in both instances, he assaulted law enforcement officers as they tried to arrest him,” Joyce’s post read. “One officer was seriously injured pursing him.”

Jackson was sentenced for various crimes, including unlawful use of a weapon, assault on law enforcement officers and resisting arrest, Joyce wrote.

Jackson is also a suspect in a shooting that left a young man paralyzed. According to Assistant Circuit Attorney Alison Bischoff, the victim in that shooting refused to cooperate with authorities.

According to Joyce’s post, Jackson denied being in possession of a weapon when confronted with photos he allegedly posted on social media.

In ending her post, Joyce wrote, “This case is just one example of the illegal gun culture in St. Louis. For more information on gun violence in St. Louis, visit www.stlouisguncrime.com.”
