WEST ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOV.com) -

Citizens with an interest in police work will be offered an opportunity to get insight into the profession with an eight week Citizen's Police Academy program.

The program, which will be co-hosted by the West County and Fenton precincts of the St. Louis County Police Department, will take place at the West County precinct on eight consecutive Wednesdays beginning September 16. The program is open to all residents of St. Louis County and is free of charge.

"The Citizens Police Academy is a great opportunity to gain personal knowledge and experience in how actual police officers patrol their beats, conduct traffic stops and investigate crime. Law enforcement professionals in the fields of Homicide, Robbery, Burglary, Drug Enforcement, Tactical Operations and the Crime Scene Unit instruct classes," said a press release.

Individuals interested in participating in the Citizen's Police Academy can contact Officer Vincent Bazzoni of West County at 314-615-0700 or Officer Aaron Dilks at 636-349-8920.

The program will conclude with a graduation ceremony on November 4.
