Illinois State Police ramping up patrols throughout August

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (KMOV.com) – The Illinois State Police will be ramping up patrols throughout the month of August in the Metro East.

State police will be conducting patrols in the counties of St. Clair and Madison to look for traffic violations.  They will be setting up safety belt enforcement zones to make sure everyone in the vehicle is bucked up. Authorities will also be inspecting car seats for children.

According to police, seat belts are on the of most effective safety devices, saving more than 16,000 lives a year.

Anyone caught without a seat belt will be fined $25.
