ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A corrections officer was shot in the leg Thursday morning near downtown St. Louis.

The corrections officer was at a bus stop in the 1600 block of North Broadway when two men exited a dark green four-door vehicle and announced a robbery around 8:30 a.m., according to police.

The corrections officer attempted to push one of the suspect’s away and a fight ensued. During the fight, the second suspect shot the victim in the thigh. The suspect then took the victim’s wallet.

After taking the victim’s wallet, one of the suspect’s shot the man using a semi-automatic handgun with an extended clip, police said.

After the shooting, the suspects re-entered their vehicle, which was last seen traveling along westbound Interstate 70.

The corrections officer was taken to a hospital in serious, stable condition.
