PHELPS COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) - More searches are planned for 13-year old Johnathan Shay, who went missing on July 9, but authorities admit that they are losing hope in finding him alive.

"You know it's bleak, you're talking three weeks and it's going to be hard for anyone, even an adult to be able to go out there and survive," Phelps County Sheriff Rick Lisenbe told News 4

Shay and his 11-year old cousin walked into the woods from a grandmother’s house south of St. James in Phelps County. The cousin was found the next day by a searcher, but Shay hasn't been seen since.

The family's hopes have been lifted by several unconfirmed sightings of Johnathan and his mother says she thinks he might be trying to stay hidden as long as he can because he might be playing a game.

The sheriff’s department has used scores of law enforcement officers, tracking dogs and the latest technology without a single sighting or clue about the boy's whereabouts.

"We had officers out there with night vision, we had infrared cameras out, we had thermal imagers on aircraft out, so we've saturated it, we saturated it hard," Lisenbe said.
