UNINCORPORATED NORTH COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A man is facing charges for allegedly fatally shooting a man who was driving a car in north St. Louis County in July.

Bryson Evans, 21, is charged one count of second-degree murder, one count of first-degree assault and two counts of Armed Criminal Action. 

Police allege Evans and two others were traveling in a car near the intersection of New Halls Ferry and Parker Road around 8 p.m. when, Evans, who was seated directly behind the driver, shot him in the head. 

Police said the car wrecked before the suspect struggled with another passenger over the gun. Following the struggle, Evans ran from the scene, according to police. 

The other passenger wasn't hurt.

The victim, Darnell Smith, was rushed to the hospital where he was listed in critical condition. On September 13, the 21-year-old died of his injuries.

Evans is currently  being held on a $500,000 cash-only bond.
