Mayor Slay urges MTC to approve fair ride-sharing regulations

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay said he is urging the Metropolitan Taxicab Commission (MTC) to approve fair code changes that would allow ride-sharing services in the city.

In a statement released Tuesday, Mayor Slay said state law and local regulations on vehicles for hire are out of date. He also said without ride-sharing services, like Uber, the region will be left behind as other cities welcome the change.

Slay will urge the MTC to approve the regulations to accommodate ride-sharing services at their meeting Wednesday.

Currently, St. Louis is the largest region in the country without smartphone-based ride services.
