ARNOLD, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

A 24-year-old man was walking along Elm Drive in Arnold when he was hit by a driver in a pick-up truck, who fled from the scene.

Jeremie Wittu has scrapes and stitches over his right eye, but knows his situation could have had a more dangerous ending.

"I could have been knocked out, I could have drowned," said Wittu. He and his family are now focused on finding the pick-up truck driver who did not stop to see if he was dead or alive.

Wittu and a friend were walking to a 7-Eleven store on Elm Drive at West Outer Road in Arnold on Saturday night when a pick-up truck's mirror hit Wittu and sent him over the bridge's guardrail. He landed in the creek after hitting his head on the way down.

"The concrete here behind the guardrail, that's where I hit as I was going down," said Wittu.

After he landed in the water, Wittu was taken to the hospital, where he got stitches on his head.

Wittu has been checking surveillance video and spreading the word in hopes he will find the identity of the driver of the Ford or GMC truck which knocked him off the bridge.

"(It was) a black truck with a camper shell on it, it had silver door handles and I was hit on the passenger side, so the door handle might be a little damaged," Wittu said.

Police have been investigating surveillance video from the 7-Eleven store, but the footage is dark.

Wittu and his family are determined to find the driver and said they have received some good tips.
