DUPO, Ill. (KMOV.com) – Hazmat crews were called to Dupo High School late Friday night to clean up a chemical spill.

Around 9 p.m., a science teacher accidentally broke a container filled with potassium cyanide inside a classroom, firefighters told News 4.

While they cleaned up the spill, crews said they took extra precautions because the chemical has the potential to become very dangerous.

The St. Clair County Hazmat Team was on the scene throughout the night to cleanup and dispose of the chemical.

The spill was completely cleaned up before Saturday morning, officials said.
