St. Louis County proposes selling park land to expand Jefferson Barracks

SOUTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOV.com) -

St. Louis County is considering selling off part of a county park to the Jefferson Barracks Cemetery for expansion.

The proposal would transfer 38 acres of Sylvan Springs County Park in South County to make room for more burial plots for veterans.

People gathered in Lemay Thursday night to hear about the plans and to offer their opinions.

“I can understand people have reservations about more land going to bury veterans,” said veteran Larry Arnowitz. “They feel it takes away their park space. But if you follow the history of Jefferson Barracks, this has always been a military place not a park.”

Residents and veterans are divided on the issue. If you would like to give your opinion, St. Louis County has an online survey. Click here for the link.
