Mizzou officials issue health warning after high number of Mumps cases

(KMOV.com) - News 4 has a health alert for parents who are about to send their kids to Mizzou with a possible spike in cases of the Mumps.

University of Missouri officials reported seven suspected cases of the virus have been already identified in the Columbia area, an unusually high number.

The Mumps can cause painful swelling in your jaw along with fever and muscle pain.

“It’s very contagious,” said Dr. Erika Harris with St. Louis Children’s Hospital. “It’s very serious.”

Another doctor told News 4 that this situation highlights the need to have children vaccinated.
