HIGHLAND, Ill. (KMOV.com) - An Alton man was charged with burglary and stalking after police found him hiding in the basement of a co-worker, from whom he allegedly stole bras, underwear and other personal items.

Police said 31-year-old Annan M. Gross is the victim’s supervisor at a warehouse in Edwardsville and after the two clocked out at 9 p.m. earlier this month, Gross put her Highland address into his GPS, driving to her home and entering through an unlocked window.

The victim told detectives she stopped to talk to friends and go to a restaurant before returning home the evening of the incident. When she returned home, she noticed a man in her home and called 911.

Officers from the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, Illinois State Police and Highland Police Department arrived on the scene and took Gross into custody.

Authorities obtained a search warrant for Gross’s vehicle, in which they found multiple pair of underwear, each inside a plastic bag with the victim’s name written on it. They also discovered a duffel bag full of feminine hygiene products and pieces of hair.

Now his wife has spoken to News 4 about the heartache and shame her husband's action have brought.

"Obviously we love him and want him to get that help. I feel like there are so many people with mental health issues in this country that don't get services until something terrible happens. I really wish that wasn't the case," his wife said.

Police said Gross admitted to the allegations and told them he had previously stolen underwear from other women. He stated during interviews that he does have a fetish with women's undergarments.

Gross is charged with one count of residential burglary and one count of stalking. He is being held in the Madison County Jail.
