ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

The Saint Louis Zoo is celebrating National Zookeeper Week between July 19 and 25, with special enrichment activities on Thursday.

“Our zookeepers devote their lives to taking care of very special animals on a daily basis, to conserving species for the future and to educating the public about the need to preserve animals and their habitats,” said Dr. Jeffrey P. Bonner, President and CEO of the Saint Louis Zoo in a release.

On Thursday, enrichment activities and chats about their careers in animal care will be offered by zookeepers.

The enrichment activities throughout the day begin at 9 a.m. with a river otter training demonstration at Chain of Lakes. The enrichment activities will continue through noon and also include a penguin feeding and giant tortoise enrichment.

The full enrichment schedule can be found at the zoo’s website.
