WOOD RIVER (KMOV.com) -

A Wood River man was charged for allegedly sexually abusing multiple children at a South Roxana apartment complex.

Richard Heatherly, 67, is charged with two counts predatory sexual assault of a child and one count of aggravated sexual abuse of a child. Heatherly allegedly committed the acts on July 15.

Authorities said Heatherly is a registered sex offender who is out of prison on parole. He was previously convicted on child pornography charges.

Heatherly works as a maintenance worker at the Connor Place Apartments in South Roxana, where the abuse allegedly took place.

There are currently no laws in place in Illinois which prevent sexual predators from being around children, unless it is at a park, school or any other location designed for people under the age of 18.

Police ask any parents who allowed their children to spend time with Heatherly to contact South Roxana Police.

He was recently arrested at his home in Wood River and is being held at the Madison County Jail.
