Two suspects are in custody after a clerk was shot during a robbery attempt at convenience store in south St. Louis July 20.

Nickolas Shannon and Donnie Young are accused of shooting the clerk after entering the SevenPlus Grocery, Deli and Bakery in the 5400 block of South Grand around 9:40 p.m.

After approaching the victim, who was working behind the counter, one of the suspects allegedly pulled a gun and fired at the victim, striking him in the jaw and torso. The second suspect then jumped over the counter and took cigarettes and money from the cash register, police said.

The victim was taken to the hospital in critical, stable condition.
