ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- Thanks for checking back in with my Baby Diary! Today we are sharing some awesome news… We know the gender of our baby!! It’s been an exciting few weeks in our household as our baby (and my bump!) continue to grow. I am now 18 weeks pregnant, which means our baby is about 6 inches long and the size of a large sweet potato.
We have been pretty certain for quite some time that we were having a baby girl. At the first ultrasound the baby’s heart rate was 175 which, the old wives’ tale says, is a classic sign it’s a girl. Even my doctor said, “you’re having a chick!” The “Chinese Calendar” test also said it was a girl. We’ve already gotten bitten by the “shopping for baby” bug and spend a lot of time looking at baby gear on the weekends. Above is the crib we picked out regardless of whether it’s a boy or a girl… we would just choose different bedding if our “Miss” is a “Mister.” Our little one is growing fast and is already sucking its thumb! The below ultrasound photo is a profile picture, with the baby’s head on the right side and its nose facing up!
We decided to go through all of the optional testing that rules out genetic disorders early on. That’s a blood test that’s done at 14 weeks and the results take a week or two. A little side perk to getting those results back (everything came back just fine!) is that it can also positively identify the gender of the baby!
We chose to have the doctor write the results on a piece of paper and put them in an envelope for us to read at home. A gender reveal party wasn’t part of our plan, we just wanted to be able to find out in private, at home.
Turns out we are having….. a BOY!!!
We don’t have a name yet for our little man, though we have three or four in the mix right now. Looking back, I guess the fact that I didn’t have any morning sickness was probably a pretty good indicator that a boy was on the way, another old wives’ tale. I’m already having fun thinking about his nursery and am leaning toward a navy and orange nautical theme.
Maternity clothes are becoming more of a need with each passing day. So, you will find me in the “Mom to-be” department more and more often! My first baby, Jack, is already rolling in big brother swag.
