ST. LOUIS, MO. (KMOV.com) – A cab driver was shot in the head early Friday morning after getting into an accident with another car.

Authorities said a 55-year-old cab driver had just picked up a passenger when a dark colored Nissan or Infinity sedan pulled in front of the taxi and stopped suddenly near Market and Jefferson. The cab then rear ended the sedan, and another car rear ended the taxi.

Police said two males got out of the sedan and started firing shots at the taxi. The cab driver then pulled a gun and returned fire before the suspects fled.  The shooting occurred close to 3:30 a.m.

After being shot, the cab driver drove himself to central patrol, located at 900 North Jefferson. He is critical condition. The passenger in the cab was not injured.
