Victim who fell to death off Eads Bridge identified

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Firefighters said one person was killed in an accident involving a towboat on the Mississippi River in downtown St. Louis Thursday afternoon.

Authorities said a towboat struck the Eads Bridge and scaffolding connected to the bridge around 3:15 p.m. Firefighters said a worker on the scaffolding then fell onto the platform of the towboat and died. The bridge was closed for about an hour so it could be inspected for damage.

The victim has been identified as 24-year-old James Pigue of the 9600 block of Ridge Road in Dittmer, Missouri.
