MAPLEWOOD, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

A woman is facing charges for allegedly leaving two small children in a hot car outside a shopping center in Maplewood.

The woman is charged with child endangerment. She allegedly left a 3-year-old and 6-year-old inside a hot car while she shopped at the Wal Mart in Maplewood on July 1. Police said a security guard was able to get the kids out of the car.

“A security guard had located two small children locked inside a vehicle unattended. The car wasn’t running and there was no air conditioning,” said Det. Mike Gilb with Maplewood police.

The children were found before they showed signs of heat distress. The security guard then brought the children inside the store, paged the woman, and then called police.

The high temperature on July 1 was 97 degrees with a peak index of 107 degrees. The temperature in the car could have been anywhere between 150 and 170 degrees, becoming life threatening in just 10 minutes.
